"From the halfpipe to the studio. Thousands of screws, set one by one."
Thomas Krief is a French artist and former high-level freestyle skier. Born in the Alps, he competed for France for twenty years, reaching the podium at the World Championships, the X Games and the World Cup, and competing at two Olympic Games.
In 2019 he gave himself entirely to his second passion. Self-taught, he builds portraits in relief from thousands of screws, set at alternating heights so each work catches the light differently and turns more abstract when seen from the side. His references come from street art in the backgrounds he tags, and from pop art in the faces he portrays.
Through The Art Truck, a nomadic cultural concept, Krief turns each place it visits into an artistic experience and brings his work directly to the public. He works from his studio near Annecy.
